What’s the deadlock?

The Dead Lock is also commonly known as a deadbolt. The lock does not have a spring-based mechanism, and its working is different from that of a spring bolt lock. A deadlock door can not be unlocked until the right key is used to open its lock. Therefore, these locks are popular among people as they provide enhanced security. They are commonly installed, in premises like residence, industries, factories, complexes and commercial buildings. They enhance the security of an architecture.

As the deadlock does not allow anyone to enter the premises without the correct key, it becomes difficult for burglars to perform any unethical break-in. These types of locks are generally installed, at the front entry of premises.

There is a variation in the category available with the deadlock. As a deadlock can either:

  • Single Cylinder
  • Double Cylinder

The most commonly used deadlocks are vertical deadbolts. Samuel Segal invented the deadbolt locks. These locks are effective and do not let burglars open the lock with the help of pry bars. The deadlocks come in different patterns as per the requirement and the usage of a customer. Here we have four categories of deadlocks. These locks are frequently installed, in household and commercial usage:

  • Exit only.
  • Push-button deadbolt.
  • Thumb turn used to unlock doors.
  • Single-cylinder deadlocks.

Cylinder Locks

Cylinder locks have been used since 1923. The installation of cylinder locks is easy! They are installed, by boring two perpendicular holes into a door. One bore is crafted, in the face of the door and other on its edge. The bore created on the front of the door is wider than the bore crafted at the edge.

There are two types of cylinder locks used frequently in architectures:

  • Single-Cylinder locks: Can be locked only from one side which is from the outside. These locks are more feasible and used in commercial infrastructure. Also, in case of a fire emergency, a double-cylinder lock can get jammed. Hence, it is advisable to install single-cylinder locks on emergency doors to avoid accidents in case of emergencies.
  • Double-Cylinder locks: Double cylinder locks have a dual locking system! That is, they can be locked, from the outside as well as the inside. These locks are commonly seen installed in the household and office rooms and usually have a doorknob with a button to click and lock from the inside.

They are also considered as part of the deadlock mechanism and are often integrated with the system. Also, at the emergency doors, it is advised to not install double-cylinder door locks, as they can be tricky to open in case of an emergency.

Cam Locks

Cam locks are the locking system mechanism that provides you with effective locking using a cam and a base. The base is to insert the key, and the cam is used, for the latching purpose. These locks are to lock file cabinets, garage cabinets etc.

The mechanism of this locking system is the same as the others. As it also uses a physical key for locking and unlocking. Each cam locking system is different from the other, and it can not be opened using any other keys. Therefore, keeping your belongings safe and restricting any unwanted person from going through your things.
